Heike Sperling, a researcher and professor for Digital Visual Media at the Institute for Music and Media at the University of Mjusic Düsseldorf set up this great online resource called the Visual Music Archive Go and indulge in it!

Jährlich im September sind MTV’s Video Music Awards – entweder in New Yorks altehrwürdiger Radio City Music Hall oder dem Gibson Amphitheatre von Los Angeles – die Vollversammlung amerikanischer Popkultur. Alles trifft sich hier, reflektiert sich, das vergangene Jahr wird selbstironisch aufgearbeitet. Jede und jeder, der als MusikerIn, SängerIn, ModeratorIn oder Showstar die medialen Bühnen des Pop betrat, muss sich an seiner öffentlichen Wirkung als mediale Person messen lassen: Der Nockherberg, der Karnevalsumzug, das Silvesterkabarett der US-amerikanischen und so stets globalen Popkultur.

Or did the new avantgarde genres of happening and performance art in the 1960es already absorb all the conceptual qualities and energy of the musical score?

Are performance scripts the only way of musical conceptualism an art history could think of?
